Society's Negative Attitude in Franz Kafka's ,"The Metamorphosis".

As Gregor Samsa grew up, he found himself transformed into a man, who is immersed in the humans of obligation. This obligation was his rail line as a salesman which he disgraced, precisely he accepted this fact for he had to become the breadwinner of the house, afterwards his fathers business collapsed, and his mother is asthmatic, and his sister is too young for encouraging the family financially. This obligation was the main link between Gregor and his family, who ignored his staple fibre needs of affection and lodge. Therefore, Gregors family, job, and society are to be blame for his alienation, metamorphosis, and his eventual death.

At the beginning of the novella, it is mentioned that [as] Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a broad insect (53). The fact that Gregor awoke, symbolizes that he awoke from blindness to sight, because he admits he does not like his job and expresses it. Oh God, he thought, what an exhausting job Ive picked for myself! On the road day in, day out... The devil satiate it all! (54). Thus, he realizes that his job has dehumanized him and transformed him into a machine, which has only the role of production.



Moreover, not only his job is physically exhausting, but it also involves lack of serious acquaintances which involve getting to know new intimate friends, and it bothers Gregor who needs human connection in send to survive.

The chief clerks visit to Gregors house is some other proof for the neglect that the firm where Gregor works has towards the needs of its employees.
